Neuropsychological Evaluations

A neuropsychological evaluation at Brush Neuropsychology Services is a comprehensive, collaborative process designed to answer questions about thinking, learning, behavior, and emotional functioning. Our goal is to provide clarity, accurate diagnoses, and practical recommendations that translate directly into real-world improvements at home, school, work, and in medical care. We strive to make the experience structured, supportive, and easy to navigate from start to finish.

Initial Intake and Consultation

Evaluations begin with a detailed intake appointment, either in person or via telehealth. This appointment often includes the patient, family members, and/or other caregivers who provide helpful information about the patient and their concerns.

During this meeting, we review what led to the referral, discuss developmental, medical, psychological, educational, and/or occupational history, and identify the specific questions that need to be answered. When helpful, we review relevant records from schools, medical providers, therapists, imaging or neurological evaluations, and previous psychological or educational assessments. This step ensures that testing is individualized, not one-size-fits-all.

Tailored Assessment Plan

After understanding your concerns and goals, we create a personalized assessment battery that may evaluate areas such as intellectual functioning, attention and executive functioning, learning and memory, language and communication, processing speed, problem-solving and reasoning, visual-spatial abilities, academic skills, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning, adaptive/functional skills, and fine motor skills. We choose tests based on age, background, referral questions, and best-practice guidelines, while ensuring the evaluation is comprehensive but not unnecessarily long.

What to Expect on the
Testing Day

Testing typically occurs over one session and often lasts between two to six hours, though session length depends on the questions to be answered. Depending on needs, testing may be spread across additional sessions.

You can expect:

A calm, structured testing environment designed to reduce anxiety and distraction

One-on-one standardized testing with highly experienced professionals

Assessment with a variety of tasks: verbal, hands-on, puzzle-like, and computerized

Breaks as needed throughout testing

After testing is complete, we conduct an extensive and highly detailed analysis within the context of the individual’s background history, interview findings, provided records, testing data, and behavioral observations.

Feedback Session

After scoring and interpretation is completed, a separate feedback appointment occurs to review all major findings in clear, understandable language. Diagnoses (when applicable) are discussed, as well as how patterns of strengths and weaknesses relate to real-world functioning. Additional recommendations and any questions you have are discussed to ensure you fully understand the results and next steps. Full written reports are completed and typically provided within approximately two weeks of your feedback appointment.
